Who's behind Postpartum.se?
Julianna Werner, certified postpartum doula
I think all families deserve informed support and nurturing care following birth. Above all, I believe in the importance of meeting the needs of the mother so that her energy can be used for healing and recovery, breastfeeding and tending to the baby's needs.
My scope of practice includes providing postpartum care to promote a smooth recovery, cooking postpartum appropriate meals, supporting the family emotionally and practically, and educating about infant feeding and care.
I am based in Stockholm and work with families who speak both Swedish and English.
Services at Postpartum.se
I support families before birth through my postpartum planning course, and during the weeks and months after birth as a postpartum doula. Since I believe that food is one of the most important parts of postpartum care, I also deliver home-made meals to postpartum families around Stockholm. ![WHAT IS TRADITIONAL POSTPARTUM CARE?
Many cultures around the world still practice traditional postpartum care with the purpose of enhancing postpartum recovery, and protecting the mother’s long term health and wellbeing. The first 20-60 days after birth may be regarded as an opportunity for rejuvenation, with the mother re-integrating into society as a more balanced version of herself.
Communities that take on the responsibility of keeping the new mother nourished and nurtured are identified as ethnokinship cultures.
Anthropologists refer to the traditional model of care as the ritual of reversal: “The increased support provided to the new mother temporarily changes her role from that of a caregiver to that of being one who is cared for. [...] For a very short, tightly circumscribed period, the mothers are mothered in order to value and protect their future capacity for mothering” (1).
